Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has laid off the majority of its 34-person portfolio recruiting team, according to reports from The American Bazaar and Axios. Axios originally reported the decision on Oct. 14, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter. The venture firm, also known as a16z, has not disclosed the exact number of employees who were let go. [1][4]
The layoffs target the firm's full stack talent team, which operated as a dedicated recruiting arm to assist a16z-backed startup companies in finding and hiring staff. The remaining members of the talent team are being reassigned into specialized investment groups, including growth and cryptocurrency units. [1][4]
Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz founded the venture capital firm on July 6, 2009. The firm launched with an initial 300 million dollar fund focused on early-stage investments in software and internet technologies. The founders established the firm to challenge traditional venture capital models by providing direct operational guidance alongside investment capital. [6]
