United States technology stocks halted a sharp selloff and began a modest recovery on Wall Street, according to reports by Guardian Business, the Boston Herald, Canon City Daily Record, and NDTV Profit. The turn comes immediately after Wall Street experienced its worst day in 19 months, NDTV Profit, NDTV, and CNBC TV18 both report. Early trading saw the Nasdaq index rise by 1.2 percent, Guardian Business reported. [1][2][3][9][10][12]

Artificial intelligence shares led the rebound, according to Guardian Business and NDTV Profit. In early trading, SanDisk shares rose by 8.3 percent, Advanced Micro Devices gained 8.1 percent, and Nvidia increased by 6.5 percent, Guardian Business reported. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 1 percent at the opening bell, dragged down by traditional consumer companies including Nike, which fell 3.5 percent, and Walmart, down 3.2 percent. [1][9]

The market volatility follows political shifts and wider economic signals. MarketWatch reported that a major stock market bounce occurred on Wednesday after Democrats swept the midterm elections, which was followed by a punishing technology selloff on Thursday. Meanwhile, European and Asia-Pacific stock markets slid after the American downturn, even as the latest United States jobs report beat economic forecasts, according to Guardian Business. [1][5]

Wall Street serves as a metonym for the American financial industry, anchored by the financial district in New York City. The New York Stock Exchange listed approximately 2,200 companies as of October 2026, with financial markets handling over 1 trillion dollars in daily trading volume. While stock indices around the world experienced sharp losses during the rout, most main market indices remain up for the full year, Guardian Business reported. [1][13][14]
