The apocalyptic satirical film Digger flopped in its opening weekend, generating a domestic box office total of 8 million dollars. Warner Bros. distributed the movie, which stars Tom Cruise as the main character and is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Fortune reported that the box office return represents one of the worst debuts of Tom Cruise's career. [1][2][7]

Top box office spot in North America instead went to Amazon MGM's Verity, which debuted with 32.6 million dollars, Fortune reported. Reviews for Digger were so poor that Warner Bros. ran advertisements asking audiences to decide for themselves. The poor performance serves as a difficult note for Warner Bros. on the cusp of its planned merger with Paramount. [2]

The movie is now expected to arrive on home streaming much faster than previous action movies starring Tom Cruise. Forbes reported that Warner Bros. will likely follow its standard premium video-on-demand strategy for the quick digital release of the film. [1][3]

In addition to directing, Alejandro G. Iñárritu co-wrote and co-produced the satirical black comedy alongside Tom Cruise. The cast also features Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons. [7]
