The Swiss SMI benchmark index gained 77 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 14,539 points on October 26, 2026. According to ad-hoc-news.de, citing RTTNews, the index finished slightly below its session high of 14,544 points following a brief early dip. Easing inflation concerns and investor optimism over upcoming corporate financial results supported the advance. [1]
Roche was the primary contributor to the rise, gaining 1.4 percent. Ad-hoc-news.de, citing Moneycab, reported that the increase followed positive trial data from a lung-cancer study and a price-target increase by analysts at JPMorgan. Conversely, shares of Novartis fell 0.4 percent ahead of the company releasing its third-quarter financial report. [1]
Roche maintains a strong focus on oncology therapies. Oncology accounts for roughly 34 percent of the revenue generated by the pharmaceutical division of Roche, which includes treatments such as Avastin and Tecentriq. [3]
Global equity markets have seen positive momentum recently driven by earnings. As FTMQ Business reported earlier, strong corporate earnings and artificial intelligence investments previously lifted United States stock indexes, including a $4.4 billion quarterly profit reported by SpaceX. [4]
