Clayton Lloyd Iley, a 41-year-old businessman from Stephenville, Texas, has been sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, Fortune reported. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas stated that Iley received a sentence of 160 months. [1]
According to Fortune, prosecutors said Iley ran an insurance brokerage in Cross Plains, Texas, and conducted a fraud scheme from January 2020 through May 2026. He pitched a fake Defense Department loan program and used the identities of victims to obtain funds. He then moved the money through two companies that he controlled. [1]
Fortune reported that prosecutors seized more than 90 exotic and collector vehicles bought with the proceeds of the scheme to repay victims. The seized cars included Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and a Firebird. The Pontiac Firebird was produced from 1967 to 2002 as a pony car designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. [1][2]
The fraud occurred in Texas, which possesses the second-largest state economy in the United States with a gross domestic product of 2.77 trillion dollars in 2024. Federal authorities are using the seized assets to pay back victims of the fraudulent scheme. [1][5]
