Tesla shares dropped on Wednesday after chief executive Elon Musk offered no fresh details about a potential merger with SpaceX, according to MarketWatch. The lack of updates left investors seeking more information following recent speculation about combining the two companies. [1][2]

During Tesla's earnings call on Wednesday, Elon Musk said he had nothing further to add regarding a deal, telling analysts he felt like he was tap-dancing through a minefield, the BBC reported. Elon Musk noted that calling a merger a certainty would be overstating things, although he had stated during a SpaceX call on Tuesday that he actively considers the move a good idea. [3][4]

As FTMQ Business reported earlier, special committees of independent directors were formed at both companies to evaluate a transaction that could create a combined entity valued at $3.5 trillion. The BBC reported that these committees have not reached an agreement on terms, and any final transaction would require shareholder approval. [4][15][16]

Tesla reported a minor drop in third quarter sales to $28.05 billion, down from $28.1 billion in the same period last year, the BBC reported. Elon Musk is the chief executive officer and largest shareholder of both Tesla and SpaceX, and Forbes estimates his net worth at $1.1 trillion. [3][13]
