First Internet Bank of Indiana has reduced its compliance review times for Small Business Administration loan applicants by 87 percent by using artificial intelligence agents. PYMNTS reported that the finding comes from a case study published by artificial intelligence compliance company Bretton AI. [1]
Reviews that previously took between eight and 10 hours now require less than one hour. PYMNTS reported that the bank estimates the artificial intelligence technology will free 24,300 employee hours annually across four compliance workflows. [1]
Chief Executive Officer David Becker wants the banking team to use the saved time to complete twice as much business rather than reduce staff. PYMNTS also reported that Customers Bank used artificial intelligence during a pilot project to close select commercial loans in seven days, compared to a standard timeframe of 30 to 60 days. [1]
The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence technology has driven significant corporate activity. Investment in artificial intelligence was initially funded by operating cash flow, but the bond market became the primary financing source by 2026 along with $3 trillion in off-balance-sheet commitments.
