United States stock markets tumbled on Friday, October 16, 2026, as artificial intelligence technology shares faced renewed pressure. Yahoo Finance, Reuters, and The Globe and Mail all reported that a combination of falling technology stocks and rising oil prices weighed heavily on Wall Street trading ahead of the weekend. [1][3][8]

The Nasdaq was on track for a weekly loss of more than 4 percent. Yahoo Finance reported that investors were concerned that debt-laden artificial intelligence infrastructure companies might not generate profits quickly enough to repay their debts, especially as borrowing costs are expected to increase. [1]

Specific artificial intelligence shares experienced heavy selling. CoreWeave dropped 12 percent on Friday, bringing its loss over five sessions to roughly 25 percent, while Broadcom also came under pressure. Bond prices for CoreWeave sold off sharply during the week, pushing up their yields. [1]

The market pullbacks follow earlier volatility across the sector. AP News and Spectrum News NY1 reported that Wall Street had managed to move higher on Thursday, October 15, despite ongoing swings in artificial intelligence shares. [4][5]
