Tesla will wind down production of its Cybertruck vehicles at its Texas factory next year, according to chief executive officer Elon Musk. BBC Business, The Guardian, and Al Jazeera all reported that the company plans to scale back manufacturing of the vehicle. Musk stated that the decision was made to make room to produce more self-driving Cybercab cars, which operate without a driver. However, BBC Business noted that Musk did not specify whether Tesla will stop manufacturing the Cybertruck entirely or move production elsewhere. [1][8][12][13]

The vehicle's lead engineer, Wes Morrill, suggested on X that the truck is being discontinued, writing that the Cybertruck was an incredible technology development platform that lives on through the Cybercab. The Guardian and the Financial Times reported that Musk is shifting his focus toward artificial intelligence and robotics. BBC Business added that the Cybertruck attracted dedicated fans with its distinct angular design, but faced delays before its 2023 launch and suffered disappointing sales numbers since. [1][8][11]

MarketWatch reported that high prices and notable recalls prevented the vehicle from gaining popularity with car buyers. According to estimates by Cox Automotive's Kelley Blue Book cited by Fortune, sales of the Cybertruck dropped 48 percent between 2024 and 2025. Musk had previously described the vehicle as Tesla's best product ever. [2][5]

Musk leads Tesla as its chief executive officer and largest shareholder, having overseen the large-scale manufacturing of battery-electric vehicles. Forbes estimated his net worth at $1.1 trillion in October 2026. The shift in manufacturing reflects Tesla's broader strategic pivot away from low-volume consumer trucks toward autonomous transport technology. [13][15]
