SpaceX chief executive officer Elon Musk addressed the restrictions on Starlink and Starshield services on Saturday, stating that Ukraine violated the terms of service by using the satellite system for offensive drone strikes. Seeking Alpha Markets and the Belfast Telegraph both report that Mr Musk defended the speed throttling after Ukrainian military officials reported that access had been restricted. [1][11]

The Ukrainian military confirmed that Starshield, the military grade internet service provided by SpaceX, appears to be working normally again, according to TechCrunch and TVP World. Ukrainian Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara stated that military forces are still conducting technical tests and have not received an official explanation for the previous limitations, TechCrunch reported. [3][6][7]

The operational disruptions lasted for ten days, TechCrunch reported. During that period, Ukrainian military drones flying at speeds around 100 miles per hour lost internet connectivity, causing personnel to lose control of some drones while making other units more vulnerable to attack. [3]

SpaceX activated the Starlink satellite internet system in Ukraine in February 2022 to replace physical communications networks destroyed in the war. The system supplies critical satellite infrastructure to Ukrainian civilians, government agencies, and defense forces. [12]
