Physical prices for Middle East crude oils sold outside the Persian Gulf have fallen in recent days as benchmark futures surge. Seeking Alpha Markets and OilPrice.com both reported that physical prices dropped as producers offered competitive rates to Asian buyers and moved more cargoes through the Strait of Hormuz using ship-to-ship transfers offshore Oman. In contrast, futures contracts for Brent crude surged over $116 per barrel due to escalating regional conflict. [1][4][5][6]

Discrepancies emerged among news outlets regarding the milestone reached by benchmark oil prices. Seeking Alpha Markets said Brent crude reached six-month highs, whereas OilPrice.com stated it reached a five-month high. Yahoo Finance noted that traders were pricing in escalating conflicts, while Anadolu Ajansi reported that Brent was heading for a weekly gain of over 4 percent. Middle East Monitor reported that Brent crude reached its highest level since June 2022 due to fears of renewed United States strikes on Iran. [1][5][6][7][8]

Brent Crude is the financial trading classification for sweet and light crude oil extracted from the North Sea in northwest Europe. In finance, the term identifies futures contracts bought and sold on the Intercontinental Exchange. As FTMQ Business reported earlier, Brent crude for December delivery had previously settled at $109.55 per barrel following Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia infrastructure. [10][12]

The divergence between physical oil markets and benchmark futures indicates shifting supply dynamics for energy buyers and small businesses. Meanwhile, related corporate developments show mixed regional activity. Investing.com reported that oilfield services firm SLB signaled a stronger 2027 based on a Middle East rebound after beating earnings estimates, while PR Newswire Business reported that around 300 exhibiting brands from 23 countries will gather in Dubai from October 27 to 29 for a major B2B jewellery trade event.
