China's gross domestic product grew by 4.5 percent year-on-year in the third quarter between July and September, according to the Guardian. The figures published by the National Bureau of Statistics of China exceeded expectations from economists. [1]

The third-quarter growth rate increased from the 4.3 percent expansion recorded in the second quarter. The Guardian reported that industrial output was buoyed by electronics demand, with factory output expanding much faster than domestic consumer spending. [1]

The Chinese economy expanded by 4.6 percent across the first nine months of the year. The official country profile notes that China is one of the two largest economies in the world by nominal GDP and the leading merchandise exporter. [1][2]

The latest expansion puts China on track to meet the official annual growth target set by the government. The Guardian reported that the Chinese government targets 4.5 percent to 5 percent economic growth for 2026. [1]
